JAKARTAcasinofreespins, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Indonesiacasinofreespins, the fourth most populous country in the world, is confronting threats associated with pregnancy and childbirth complications due to the physical impacts of climate change, according to authorities on Monday.

The country's National Family Planning Coordinating Board (BKKBN) revealed that in Indonesia, global warming can cause premature birth and increase the rate of low birth weight.

"This is because the situation caused by global warming, such as flooding, for example, can cause stress to pregnant women and therefore can automatically trigger pregnancy complications," said Hasto Wardoyo, head of the BKKBN in Jakarta.

He said that the report of preeclampsia had also increased along with the amount of environmental pollution. Preeclampsia is a pregnancy problem in which the blood pressures of pregnant women, which are usually normal, rise very high and cause dangerous threats to their health. It usually happens during 20 weeks of pregnancy.

Wardoyo referenced national statistics indicating that Indonesia's maternal mortality rate stands at 189 per 100,000 live births, a figure significantly higher than the target rate of 70 per 100,000 live births.

Data from Indonesia's Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection demonstrates that over 50 percent of infants whose mothers die in childbirth do not survive past their first year. Consequently, maternal mortality is a significant risk factor for infant mortality.

Wardoyo noted that climate change not only exacerbated pregnancy-related issues but also heightened the risk of heat-induced fatalities and the contamination of water and air in Indonesia. It further diminished air quality, potentially leading to respiratory complications and food scarcity, he added.■
